IGERTS IN AMSTERDAM Alice Vasilenko (Rutgers), Matt Metzger (Rutgers) and Lauren Beach (NJIT) met in Amsterdam in the summer of 2007 while participating in summer internships at Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands, The University of Whitwatersrand in South Aftica, and The University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.
STUDENT INTERNSHIPS IN NANOPHARMACEUTICAL ENGINEERING
There are many internships and study opportunities available for IGERT students, and every year several students get to study overseas or in the US to broaden their experience, to network with other researchers and to learn new techniques.
Lauren Beach, June 24-August 1, 2007
- Lauren studied at the University of Birmingham in Birmingham , UK .
Research Area/Topic: Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) of the Magnetically Assisted Impaction Coating (MAIC) Process with correlation using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) measurements.
Dan Braido, June 5 – Aug. 3, 2007
- Dan Braido studied at Pfizer in Sandwich , UK
- Research Area/Topic: Methods of Chemical Imaging to determine Tablet Properties for Correlation with the Tablet's Dissolution Profiles”.
Dan Lepek, Summer 2006 and Summer 2007
- Daniel Lepek studied at the University of Seville, Spain, for 2 weeks in 2006 and 6 weeks in 2007; also University of Surrey, UK.
- 2006, 2007 Research Area/Topic: Nanofluidazion
Daniel did research at the University of Seville (Faculty of Physics). His project was also supported by a NSF/IREE grant. He spent several days in England ( University of Surrey ) observing the x-ray microtomography equipment for another nanofluidization project in conjunction with the current one. He had an opportunity to consult a co-author of one of his papers in Amsterdam immediately following the Seville work.
Matt Metzger, Summer 2006 and 2007
- Matt Metzger studied at the University of Whitwatersrand in Johannisburg , South Africa
- 2006 and 2007 Research Area: Use of the Attainable Region to Optimize Milling Circuits
- Matt worked with Dr. David Glasser, Dr. Diane Hildebrandt, Dr. Brendon Hausberger and Dr. Ngangezwe Khumalo on the development of the Attainable Region for use in milling/communition ,June-July 2006 and in the summer of 2007.
- Matt attended the Gordon Research Conference on Granular and Granular
Fluid Flow in Oxford , England August 2006.
- Matt also attended the DEM 07 conference on Discrete Element Modeling simulations in Brisbane , Australia August 2007.
Patricia Portillo, Summer 2007
- Patricia studied at the University of Birmingham and Buck Systems in Birmingham , UK
- 2007 Research Topic/Area: Operating continuous mixers used for macro to Nano-particles.
Alise Vasilenko, Summer 2007
